Margaret E. Fletcher, 82, of Scranton, died Sept. 17 at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., where she was a guest.

Born Nov. 4, 1934 in Scranton, daughter of the late John Earl and Ruth N. Sponsler Purcell, Margaret was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and was employed by Clinical Labs in Scranton before retirement. Margaret enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church.

Margaret’s family would like to extend thanks to the nursing staff at the Jewish Home for the outstanding care provided and to the wonderful staff at Compassionate Care Hospice for their love and care to Margaret.

Surviving are her son, John Stephen Fletcher, Scranton; sister, Jane Griffiths and husband, Linn, Dalton; nieces and nephews including Douglas Griffiths, Darren Griffiths; Lisa Machell and daughter, Mackenzie; Ruth and Jeff Nowicki and family, John and Sue Garvey and family; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Dr. Edward Skovira; and her sister, Shirley Houseman.

A memorial service will be:
Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. in the Elm Park United Methodist Church chapel, 712 Linden St., Scranton.

Interment and committal will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery.

Friends may call:
Oct. 7 from 9 to service time at the church chapel.
