Donald A. Dakin, 89, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore after an illness. His wife is the former Barbara J. Goodall. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage on Oct. 24.

Born March 9, 1928 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Walter and Frances Muller Dakin. Donald was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended Pennsylvania State College. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served with the 25th Signal Corps in Korea and Labrador. Before his retirement in 1984, Donald was employed for 36 years by Bell Telephone Co.

He was a member of Elm Park United Methodist Church in Scranton, a 50+ year member of the Masonic Green Ridge Lodge 597 and a member of the Bell Pioneers.

Donald was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed model railroading. His family was the pride of his life. He loved spending time with family, especially vacations to Ocean City, Md. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Also surviving are two sons, Alan Dakin and wife, Barbara, Dunmore; and Robert Dakin, Scranton; a daughter, Donna Schroeter and husband, James, Peckville; grandchildren, Christina, Alan Jr., Paul, Dustin, Brittany and John; and great-grandchildren, Ava, Max and Gage.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care they provided.

A memorial service will be:
Wednesday at noon from the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton.

Military honors will follow the services.

Interment will be private at Valley View Cemetery.

Friends may call:
Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Donald’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
